Worship
What is worship?
Worship is declaring the “worthship” of God. It is declaring that God is worthy to be praised. Worship is something we do not just on Sunday morning, but every day of the week, in all we say and do. Sunday morning is the conclusion of a week of worship, when we gather as a community to celebrate the amazing grace of God in Christ. The author of revelation paints a beautiful picture of worship, where every creature in heaven and earth sings in full voice, “Worthy is the lamb that was slain, to receive blessing, honor, glory and might! And everyone said, ‘Amen!” (Revelation 5: 11-14) Our weekly Sunday worship service is not about us, but about God, and serving up an offering of praise and thanksgiving to the one who is worthy.
How do we worship?
Every church family has its worship style, as do we. Sunday morning service begins at 10:30 a.m., and we encourage participants to arrive early for a few moments of preparation. God is the audience and we are the choir, led by an ensemble of musicians and other worship leaders who help us to praise God through singing, praying, hearing and responding to God’s word. We value the leadership of the Spirit, the participation of people, and a variety of forms, including music, media, drama, dance, and the many other gifts and talents we have to bring. As an urban community we value an eclectic style of worship that offers an increasingly multi-cultural offering of praise. Our worshipping community includes people of different ages, ethnicities and economies. What unites us is Christ. So come as you are, but don’t expect to stay that way. Authentic worship of the living God has a way changing things – including us!
